Edge Of Darkness

Mad Mel makes a welcome return to the big screen and in front of the camera in this gritty conspiracy thriller. British helmer MARTIN CAMPBELL reprises his acclaimed 80's TV series about a grizzled homicide detective who investigates the death of his activist daughter and subsequently uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence. There's some good performances (despite the sometimes unintelligible Boston accents) and meaty dialogue but despite its honourable sentiment the confusing convoluted proceedings comes across a little far fetched (ala James Bond) and rather fanciful.
