Ambitious helmer ROB MARSHALL delivers a giddily enjoyable and super stylish hybrid of Bob Fosse's "All That Jazz" and Frederico Fellini's "8 1/2" with this look at a revered 60's Italian director (DANIEL DAY LEWIS in unfamiliar territory) suffering from writer's block and an unhealthy infatuation with an octad of women in his life. Though decidely indulgent ,the musical sequences (especially those by PENELOPE CRUZ, KATE HUDSON and FERGIE) are absolute knockouts, the set designs is to die for and, IMHO, this flashy tribute to the world of movie making is what all musicals should aspire to!
