Visionary and single minded filmmaker JAMES CAMERON has triumphed, once again, with this state of the art, crowd friendly but bold sci fi adventure pic. Those cinephiles hoping to see a technically groundbreaking screen experience will not be disappointed as Cameron creates a truly mind boggling and eye popping futuristic world with a seamless combination of motion capture and live action viewed with the added attraction of state of the art digital 3D. Cameron is also successful, for the most part, in creating characters worth investing in (SAM WORTHING is terrific as the petulant, fearless and resourceful hero) and despite it's shortcomings (James Horner’'s derivative score, simplistic dialogue and an overly optimistic and fanciful conclusion) Cameron is to be applauded for his obvious visual panache and his resonant ecological and environmental (and even references to the war on terror) themes.
